Lower Keys Medical Center (LKMC) isn't just a hospital - it's a lifeline for Key West. With a total community impact of nearly $125 million in 2024, we are making a positive difference that goes far beyond medical care.
LKMC provides care for the most vulnerable in our community. In addition to millions of dollars in charity care, our team helps low income residents enroll in insurance programs to enable access to health services and the peace of mind that comes with knowing you're covered. Over the past two years, we've helped more than 4,000 people gain access to medical insurance.
Over the past decade, more than $50 million in capital investments have improved care in the Keys. Capital investments are made to improve the hospital facility, expand services and ensure modern medical technology is available in Key West.
The people who work at LKMC are incredible caregivers and we appreciate their skills, expertise and compassionate approach to patient care. As a large Key West employer, we also recognize that our employees spend their paychecks in the community - on housing, in stores, at restaurants, and in many other ways that support the local economy.
Our tax dollars support local services like fire, police, and schools. And, while we pay taxes to support our community, LKMC receives no taxpayer funding. In other words, none of the taxes paid by Key West residents are used to fund hospital operations or services.
