Quality Care in Key West
Ten years ago, around the time Community Health Systems acquired the lease for Lower Keys Medical Center (LKMC), the hospital held a CMS* one-star rating. Since then, the hospital has made great strides in quality, achieving a four-star rating in 2022 and 2023. While the hospital dropped to three stars in the latest reporting period, LKMC expects to return to a four-star rating when the new ratings are released in April 2025.
Ratings are based on:
- Safety of care and clinical outcomes, including lower mortality rates, lower readmission rates, and avoidance of hospital acquired infections.
- Timeliness of care, especially in the emergency department where we work to provide a competitive average door to provider and average length of stay time.
- Overall patient experience, including communications with doctors and nurses, cleanliness of facilities, and likelihood to recommend services to others.
